Barbara Marsini

Barbara Rando Marsini is an active South Jersey mother of five. She runs a thriving professional cleaning business servicing multi-million dollar beachfront homes at the shore. She enjoys exercising daily, dancing, walking the beach and shell collecting.

Diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse during her second pregnancy in 1982, Marsini began experiencing fatigue and shortness of breath that, by 1996, had convinced her doctors that she needed heart valve surgery.

After further consultation and research, Marsini learned about the minimally invasive valve procedures being performed by Dr. Delos Cosgrove at the Cleveland Clinic. In February 1997, Dr. Cosgrove performed a minimally invasive annuloplasty, or surgical repair of Marsini's mitral valve, using a
Cosgrove-Edwards annuloplasty ring.

Three days after her surgery, Marsini returned home and resumed her active life. February 2007 marked her 10 year anniversary.

In October of 1999, Barbara visited Edwards in Irvine, California where she met the woman who had sewn her ring along with the entire ring lab team. She was the first ring recipient to tour Edwards' lab.

"I needed to say thank you to the person who made the ring that saved my life. It was part of my healing. Visiting the lab and watching everyone work on new life-saving rings was a one of the most spiritual and rewarding times of my life."
